Be as you wish to seem

"Be as you wish to seem." -Socrates

So if I don't want to seem stressed out, frazzled, tired, or overwhelmed with everything - shopping, cleaning, cooking, wrapping gifts, writing holiday cards... I should simply not be those things? Easy for Socrates to say, huh?

How do I wish to seem? Calm, organized, kind, happy, together, helpful, caring. So I guess I should just be those things. I'll work on that. Starting tomorrow. After a good night's sleep.

I think I should have gone to bed about an hour ago, instead I wrote the random blog. I think it's true, but...

Katy,
Socrates said a lot of worthless crap. Unfortunately, many people are still enamored of him like a lot of other supposedly brilliant dead people. Once someone gets to the Pantheon, it's hard to get them out.

Hi Katy,
Do you think maybe there's a fundamental contradiction in our economy, in that it's based on our buying STUFF all the time, but buying stuff all the time eventually causes everyone to go broke?
Maybe it's the constant ads for stuff we have absolutely no need for -- including advertising to children -- that's unpatriotic.

Rachel,
I do think that there is pressure everywhere to buy stuff. Everywhere. The more we can get rid of the pressure the better. I should stop watching TV commercials, call the catalog companies and tell them to stop sending all that unwanted paper to our houses, and stop going "window-shopping." I'm sure we'd be far less tempted if we did just those three things. But why aren't we inundated with ads to SAVE for the future??? It seems that would be an important message to send to the generation who will need savings to survive in retirement.
